Micro LED realizes TRUE BLACK

Only LED display with micro LED is True Black

Some manufacturers claims they have "true black" LED display screens the LED lamp beads of the "true black", does look different, they say there are special coating so as to realize " true black".

True black is required by high end displays  and there is obvious advantages of being true black, the contrast ratio, the color depth, the gray scale, etc. of the picture are significantly enhanced.

However the "true black" in SMD LED is not true compared to the black of the micro LED.

A simple graph for comparison:

In SMD lamp bead, since 30% of the lamp footprint has to be black at power off, they have to cover the die with some special materials, by sacrifying the brightness, and the material must allow the light goes through, it's really conflict.

In micro LED, the 1% footprint of die can be ignored, all black is 99% black !  Yes, this can be called TRUE BLACK.

The manufacturer that does this type of micro LED claims that in their lab the maximum brightness is 2,000 nit, the minimum is 0.001 nit, which converts to contrast ratio 2,000,000 : 1, which beats any competitor in the market, in mass production, the contrast ratio is greater than 1,000,000:1.

Micro LED has to be packed in COB for its fine pitch, compared to SMD, COB has more advantages, it's water proof, dust proof, anti shock, more vivid, etc. the only drawback is the price, however, the manufacturer is bringing the cost down with its economy of scale, the display made with its micro LED chips is offered significantly lower than the major brands, which helps to be accepted by the market.
